Forms and Guidelines
The 24th Annual Hayes Graduate Research Forum will be held on May 1, 2010, in the new Ohio Union. The student abstract deadline for the 2010 Hayes Forum is Monday, Feburary 15, 2010.
Faculty Judges
A number of Ohio State faculty members who are dedicated to graduate research and professional development contribute their time and energy year after year to make the Hayes Graduate Research Forum a consistent success.
- If you are a faculty member interested in serving as an abstract or paper/presentation judge for the 2010 Forum, please submit a Judging Application.
- If you would like to nominate a faculty member to serve as a judge for the 2010 Forum, please submit a Nomination Form.
Background
Now in its 24th year, the Edward F. Hayes Graduate Research Forum is co-sponsored by the Council of Graduate Students, the Graduate School, and the Office of Research. Its purposes are to:
- Provide a significant professional development experience for OSU graduate students;
- Encourage graduate students to share their research with the academic community;
- Recognize outstanding graduate student scholarship within the University; and
- Facilitate exchange between students, faculty, administration, and the public.
Students enrolled in any area of graduate study at The Ohio State University are invited to participate.
Eligibility
- All graduate students in good standing with the Graduate School and enrolled for Winter and Spring Quarters 2010 in a degree-granting program are eligible to participate.
- The individual submitting the abstract must be its primary author: the research must be based on the graduate student's substantive ideas and must be a direct product of his or her work.
- Students who participated in a previous Forum are eligible to re-enter (whether or not a prize was received); however, they must be presenting different research or a different aspect of the same research.
Process
- Applicants will initially prepare a short abstract of their presentation (less than 1000 words) and submit it with their application.
- These applications will be reviewed by faculty volunteers, and the highest-scoring applicants in each academic area will be invited to participate in the Forum. The top ten presentations will be presented orally, with remaining participants giving poster presentations.
- Poster presenters will be able to select from two poster divisions: "Sciences and Engineering", or "Social Sciences, Arts, and Humanities."
- The presentation judges will attend the presentations or posters on the day of the Forum. Rankings will be determined based on the judges' impression of the presentation or poster.
- Presentation and Poster winners will be expected to provide an electronic proceedings paper for inclusion in the OSU Knowledge Bank.
Prizes will be awarded in each area for the top two presenters/performers in each college's oral presentation/performance/exhibition categories and for each poster division.
- First Place: $900
- Second Place: $500
Cash awards will be disbursed through OSU Paychecks pending the submission of a compliant proceedings paper. Taxes will be withheld from the award money as required by the IRS.
