Edward F. Hayes Graduate Research Forum

Proceedings Guidelines

General Notes

  • The forum award winner must be the sole author of the paper's text, though the research may have been conducted collaboratively. (Other contributors to the paper may be thanked in a first-page footnote.)
  • You are allowed (and encouraged) to revise the paper based on the feedback you received at the Forum and from other sources.

Procedures

  1. Revise and prepare your paper according to the guidelines sent to you via e-mail. Submit the paper to the OSU Knowledge Bank as an Adobe PDF file.
  2. If the paper, when formatted, is overly long (more than ten pages of text with no more than an additional 10-pages of tables, figures and references) you will be asked to shorten the paper.
  3. Your cash award from the Forum will be reflected in your June paycheck (assuming all deadlines were promptly met).

Formatting Guidelines

We will only accept papers in Adobe PDF format via the OSU Knowledge Bank.

  1. The paper must be typed (12-point Times New Roman font) and double-spaced.
  2. In general, you should follow the publication traditions in your discipline. You may wish to consult an accepted style manual such as APA or MLA. The list of references, citations, or bibliography should be single-spaced. Double-spacing in between bibliographic entries is acceptable.  Feel free to look at one of the example papers listed under guideline #4 or guideline #5.
  3. Margins must be EXACTLY 1-inch on all sides of the page.
  4. If you gave 12-minute oral presentation, your paper may not exceed 10 pages of text, excluding necessary figures and references. These additional pages of figures and references may themselves not exceed 10 pages. (Note that you can either insert your figures among the main text, or place them separately at the end.) An example paper can be viewed at: https://kb.osu.edu/dspace/bitstream/1811/29303/1/BM-E.Hayes.pdf
  5. If you gave a poster presentation, your paper may not exceed 6 pages of text, excluding the cover page and necessary figures and references. These additional pages of figures and references may themselves not exceed 11 pages. (Note that you can either insert your figures among the main text, or place them separately at the end.) An example poster paper can be viewed at: https://kb.osu.edu/dspace/bitstream/1811/29390/1/N.Young,%20Hayes%20Research%20Forum.pdf
  6. Submit papers electronically to the OSU Knowledge Bank.  This submission process is more intensive than previous paper and abstract submissions.  You are essentially creating metadata for your work to be able to be found by others when you are ready to share it.  The instructions are available at http://library.osu.edu/sites/kbinfo/hayes.html
  7. Please do not exceed a reasonable amount of paper -- if you can fit more than one chart, graph, or figure on a page clearly and neatly, please do so. Do not use report covers and follow the format demonstrated in the examples and in the file you should have received via email called "Hayes Formatting Sample Doc.doc".
