Note from Tracey and David Regarding Incident on Nov. 28

Dear CGS Delegates, Senators and fellow students

Yesterday, we experienced an event that one too often sees reported from elsewhere, always hoping that it will never occur close to home.  While grateful that swift action kept the number of direct victims low, we realize that many across our campus community experience this wound in a variety of ways.

Our thoughts are with those who were physically injured, their families, and all who witnessed or were otherwise directly touched.

As leaders, many of us tend to focus on helping others at times of crisis, please take time to be aware of, and responsive to, your own needs.

The University is providing counseling staff around campus, including:

  • B145 RPAC
  • Ohio Union Performance Hall
  • Younkin Success Center - fourth floor
  • 1030 Lincoln Tower
  • After hours, counselors will be available at 614-292-5766.

Also, please don't hesitate to reach out to us.  Nothing's too small of a concern.

If you haven't seen notice of it, the university is holding a campus event tonight, November 29th at 7 p.m.  in St. Johns Arena.  Although it might feel counter intuitive to seek out a big group at times like this; sometimes experiencing strength in numbers can be powerful.

In his message to the university yesterday, Dr. Drake reminded us that “together we remain unified in the face of adversity.”  Indeed it was in that spirit that the Delegates passed a resolution at our most recent meeting condemning “any acts of hate speech, violence, or intimidation of any kind expressed towards any member of our community.”  Click here for the full resolution.

Apart from the tremendous feeling of care and concern expressed by our fellow Buckeyes, we wanted to let you know that we're hearing support from other grad student councils and associations across the country, including Michigan State, University of Washington, Arizona State, and University of North Carolina. We are grateful to be surrounded by such care and concern.

Be well,
