Global Gateway Graduate Student Research Abroad Grant

The Global Gateway Graduate Student Research Abroad Grant encourages and promotes the professional and academic development of graduate student researchers at The Ohio State University by providing financial support that allows students to undertake thesis or dissertation research abroad, and thus work toward the completion of their degree.  Awardees also will assist the University pursue its strategic international goals by creating and bolstering relations with universities and other institutions across the world.

All graduate students conducting such research abroad internationally this summer are encouraged to apply.  We are looking to fund applicants from a variety of Ohio State's departments who are going to a variety of countries, especially those in which Ohio State currently has a Global Gateway Office (India, China, and Brazil), and where Ohio State hopes to have a more significant presence in the future (Ethiopia, Turkey).  The award is funded by the Office of International Affairs, OSU's Graduate School, and the Council of Graduate Students. Successful applicants will be awarded a grant of up to $1,000 to assist with travel related expenses for research abroad.*

Please note that the research should be the student’s own, and should be independent of other opportunities, such as study abroad.  Best of luck to applicants!

*Please be aware that all Ohio State students traveling to international locations for the purpose of undergraduate or graduate/dissertation research, international internships, or independent study, which is part of their academic program, are required to enroll in the University's supplemental study abroad health insurance.  Be sure to include the expense of the insurance (per day) in your estimated travel costs.  Ohio State's supplemental travel insurance is provided through HTH Worldwide Services. This supplemental insurance is required for all Ohio State students studying and researching abroad, and includes a policy covering accident and sickness and for emergency assistance, evacuation and repatriation.  Awardees who travel internationally will not be reimbursed if they have not purchased supplemental insurance through OSU.   For more information, please visit: http://oia.osu.edu/preparing-to-depart.html ( Note that this information is listed under “Study Abroad”; while the GGG funds research trips, not study abroad trips, this information is still relevant to a research trip.)
